Fifth Graders Demonstrate Generosity Through Service
For decades, the Grace Lutheran School faculty has prepared for each new academic year by selecting a scripture verse as the year’s theme. This year, they chose Galatians 5:22-23, the nine blessings the Holy Spirit confers on believers.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
against such things there is no law.”—Galatians 5:22-23
During the month of February, fifth grade focused on the fruit of the spirit, generosity. The class brainstormed ways to show and practice generosity. One idea that was generated was to be generous with time. The class put this into practice by taking a field trip to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, a Christian nonprofit organization whose mission statement is, “Feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit”.
Grace’s students packed meals that were then shipped to children all over the world. Together, the group helped pack 54 boxes, for a total of 11,664 meals for children!
