Meet our 5th Grade Teacher – Mrs. Nelson

What is your teaching experience?

This is my second year at Grace. I have over 30 years of teaching experience, mostly overseas.

What do you love the most about teaching at Grace?

Everything! Wonderful students, exceptional and supportive colleagues, and a place to teach with some flexibility. I love that I can share my faith with students and pray for them, and that I have beautiful building to work in.

What is the best word to describe Grace?

Blessed, because God’s working here in the lives of everyone: students, teachers, parents, and staff.

What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?

Our family of 8 lived overseas for twenty years. I taught in English-speaking international schools. Now, my fifth grade students are pen pals with a fifth grade class from my former school in Costa Rica!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?

Be with my family! I’m so blessed.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Micah 6:8 – A perfect way to view others and live life.

What is the best advice you’ve ever heard?

From my father in-law, “When you wake up ask God, ‘How can I be a blessing today?’, and He will show you”.

What is something that recently made you smile?

Seeing a student succeed at something they told me they “couldn’t do”.

What is a weird or fun fact that you know?

“Dobry den” means good afternoon in Slovak.
