Meet our Music Teacher – Mrs. Johnson
How long have you been a teacher at Grace?
I am starting my second year teaching at Grace. But, I have been a member since 2016. All of my three children attended Grace School, 2010-2015.
What do you love the most about teaching at Grace?
I love the supportive, positive faith-based atmosphere at Grace. I feel that I am free to teach and not bogged down in bureaucratic requirements that I experienced in public schools. The faculty, staff, and students are enthusiastic about learning.
What is the best word to describe Grace?
Joy. Because Grace brings me joy, even when I may be going through a rough patch or in the middle of busy preparations.
What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
As a music teacher, I hopefully bring my gifts to help kids sing and make music together.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
I enjoy supporting my own children in their musical pursuits, watching tv with my cats, Bono and Charlie, going to the Morton Arboretum to walk, spending time with friends, and going to concerts.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.” I love this verse because it reminds me to take one day at a time.
What is the best advice you’ve ever heard?
Do what brings you joy.
What is something that recently made you smile?
Watching my cats wrestle around and then sprint after each other.
What is a weird or fun fact that you know?
Jellyfish don’t have brains.
