Meet our German Teacher – Frau Lyle

How long have you been a teacher at Grace?

This is my 6th year at Grace. My first teaching job out of college was in Martin, Slovakia (first grade English), then I taught high school German in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for three years.

What do you love the most about teaching at Grace?

I love being able to teach so many different ages. It is challenging at times, but that is certainly something that I never thought I would experience as a German teacher.

What is the best word to describe Grace?

Community. The Grace community is like a big family.

What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?

I have lived and traveled in Germany, so I am able to use first-hand experiences to share with students about German culture and traditions.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?

I love spending time with friends and family. Walking, jogging, biking…anything outside! I also really love playing board games. A current favorite of mine is Ticket to Ride. My kids almost always beat me, but I still love it!

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” I love the idea that I am surrounded by prayer. This verse also encourages me to never give up!

What is the best advice you’ve ever heard?

Just take one day at at time.

What is something that recently made you smile?

Listening to the Earth, Wind and Fire Christmas album.

What is a weird or fun fact that you know?

I am THE WORST at recalling fun, random facts. You never want me on your trivia team. 🙂
