A Message From Coach McCabe

Hello Viking Fans,

We are excited to celebrate the fantastic accomplishments of our Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams at the Lutheran State Meet on May 18 and 19 at Concordia University in River Forest. We had athletes compete in 18 events. Maxwell Armstrong (8), David Blackman (8), Maya Bourell (6), Aida Davis (8), Esme Davis (8), Matthew Huffman (8), Arsema Kumela (6), Eden Ling (7), Avielle Ling (6), Fiona Lowden (6), Harry Miller (7), Asha Sekhar (8), Adam Ver Steeg (7), Taliah Wallace (8), and Karis Young (8) all gave their best efforts at State, and we are so proud of them!

Twelve of these great efforts ended up placing in medalist territory. Matthew and Maxwell placed 2nd and 6th in the Boys 110 Hurdles, earning 11 points for our Boys’ Team and a 14th place finish for our team at State. On the Girls’ side, the dynamic sister duo of Esme and Aida finished 3rd and 7th respectively in the 400 Dash. Aida finished 5th in the 200 Dash, and Karis finished 6th in the 100 Dash. Our 4×200 Relay team of Maya, Asha, Aida, and Taliah finished 4th. Our 4×800 Relay team finished 5th with combined efforts from Eden, Avielle, Arsema, and Esme. Asha jumped to 2nd place in Long Jump, followed by Karis in 7th place. Two Grace School records were broken that weekend: the 4×100 Relay team of Maya, Aida, Taliah, and Karis finished 2nd, and Karis set a new fastest time on the record board with her effort in the 100 Hurdles, earning 5th place. The many points collected by these young women added up to a 3rd place trophy for the Girls’ Team. It was thrilling!

As we send our 8th graders off to new adventures, we send our prayers and best wishes with them. We hope that their experiences on this team and at Grace Lutheran School will serve them well in all their future pursuits. To our returning athletes, we can’t wait until next season! Coaches Brian Schultz, Ruthi Brucato, Jennifer Brayton, and Sarah McCabe are so grateful for all the hard work and focused determination from this wonderful group of students.
