All About 3rd Grade

Mrs. Starrick is the new 3rd grade teacher for the 23-24 school year. She has brought so many fun and unique learning experiences to the 3rd grade class. Before becoming the 3rd grade teacher, she was an active Grace parent for several years since her three children attend Grace Lutheran School.

3rd graders at Grace build on number sense and find patterns to multiply and divide, learn about and apply fractions, study 2-dimensional shapes, and compute perimeter.

They develop their writing with narratives, steps in a process, fiction/creative writing, opinion essays, and poetry.

They build their fluency and comprehension, working a lot with nonfiction texts.

They explore scientific topics such as electricity, magnetism, weather and climate, forces, animal traits, and hereditary characteristics.

They study the history of their community, the basics of how government works, economics, and about being a productive and respectful citizen within our community.

In religion, they learn about the miracles of Jesus, creation and the fall of man, and our need for a savior. The goal is to bring the students into a deeper relationship with God and cultivate discussions as they ask questions.

Technology

Students in 3rd grade each get their own Chrome book for at school use. 3rd graders have a typing class. When working on writing assignments, students handwrite initial drafts and type the final paper. While we recognize the importance of technology in this day and age, Grace still sees the incredible value of pen to paper. 3rd grade students at Grace still work on their writing skills including lessons in cursive writing.

3rd grade students have 8th grade chapel buddies! 3rd and 8th grade students will get to spend time with each other periodically throughout the school year. Chapel buddies will sit together during chapel when a Grace class is leading the service.
